About the role

Job Description

We are seeking an energetic and collaborative person to join the Research and Development Sciences value team responsible for enabling data and technology products and services that accelerate our scientists’ ability to discover and develop innovative medicines that change the course of human health.

As the technical leader of the Scientific Data (SD) product line you will collaborate with product line leader to shape the data landscape vision for enabling insights for drug discovery and synthesis of therapies and vaccines. You will define solution architecture vision for a suite of data products in service of this data landscape vision and lead a team of solution architects and engineers in realization of this vision to enable frictionless data flow. You will help define the standard of excellence in data engineering and solution architecture in our organization and combine this with your knowledge of drug discovery and development to inspire the cross-functional product organization to deliver value to our scientists.

Requirements:

  • Single point of accountability for Scientific Data  (SD) Product line technology vision, roadmap, and delivery ensuring strong architectural alignment of products in the product line.

  • Designs, builds, and maintains data pipeline architecture - ingest, process, make data analytics ready  and deliver data to stakeholders

  • Has overview of the date engineering market development to be able to come up/explore new ways of delivering pipelines to increase their value/contribution

  • Ensure strong architectural alignment of products in the product line with the overall outcomes and success metrics of the Research and Development Sciences value team

  • Evaluate and provide input into strategic plans for other product lines across the Research and Development Sciences value team

  • Coach, guide, and manage a team of technical leads, engineers, architects across product line to own technology solutions from conception to retirement, aligned with key architectural design patterns

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory safety, GMP and Validation requirements. Ensure all systems are designed, built, and operated to full SDLC requirements.

  • Develops deep knowledge of the company's supported technology; understands the whole complexity/dependencies between multiple teams, platforms (people, technologies)

  • Communicates intensively with other platform/competencies to comprehend new trends and methodologies being implemented/considered within the company ecosystem

  • Understands the customer/stakeholders business needs/priorities and helps building solutions that support our business goals

  • Builds “community of practice” leveraging experience from delivering complex analytics projects

  • Is accountable for ensuring that the team delivers solutions with high quality standards, timeliness, compliance and excellent user experience

  • Contributes to innovative experiments, specifically to idea generation, idea incubation and/or experimentation, identifying tangible and measurable criteria

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • B.A./B.S. or M.A./M.S. in a scientific or technical discipline (such as computer science, engineering, biology, chemistry, etc.). Pharmaceutical experience preferred but not mandatory.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 8-10 years in data engineering and technical architecture supporting complex data modalities at scale

  • Has managed technical product teams and architects. Proven experience in team building, mentoring, and leadership with a demonstrated ability to inspire others to follow a common vision. Ability to function in geographically distributed culturally diverse environment.

  • Has experience with technical and/or solution architecture, driving better and purposeful decision making on capability and last mile solutions across the value team, experience and comfort making build-buy-assemble decisions as well as technology stack decisions.

  • Awareness of relevant industry business, information and technology trends in data engineering and management. Demonstrated  knowledge of business processes and industry/market trends within the biopharmaceutical scientific space.

  • Strong communication skills with ability to align the organization on complex technical decisions. Proven negotiation and guiding through influence skills, along with good problem-solving skills.
