Job Description

As the Technical Lead of Controls for the T56/501K and the Helicopters Programs, you will work directly for the Chief Engineer and lead a team of engineers deployed from Group ET&S along with retained engineers from both programs to deliver engineering solutions for all aspects of engine control systems, hardware, and software to cost, schedule, and quality across a broad spectrum of work from new design definitions, production support to resolving in-service product issues.  You will work with the other members of the Engineering Leadership (Project CPE, CDEs, CLE, and the functional Technical Leads) to provide technical and programmatic leadership and governance for T56/501K and Helicopters program of controls work.  You will be the lead technical interface for controls to external customers and certification authorities.

The Helicopter Program is a dynamic business that supports delivery of hundreds of new engines each year to 6+ different Airframers while providing aftermarket support to a global fleet of over 16,000 in-service engines in the M250, RR300, and CTS800 family of engines. Our customers rely on our product to fly missions which provide critical safety and humanitarian services to communities throughout the world.

T56/501K Program is a vital business with a wide range of products and services offered across multiple sectors, customers, and operators.  There are ~3800 T56 S3/S3.5 engines in service on the C130H/T and P-3 aircraft operated by the USAF, USN, and ~70 international customers and ~200 T56 S4/AHE engines are in service on the US Navy’s and FMS E-2C and E-2D aircraft.  We provide the energy and naval variant engines (501K series, MT5S Series), spares, and services for these two variant families to Siemens and US Naval customers as well.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, plan and execute technical program of work that delivers engineering solutions for all aspects of engine control systems, hardware, and software to cost, schedule, and quality that satisfies all the product, project and regulatory, including cyber security requirements.  The scope of work may include new design definition, production and supply chain support, technical supplier management for supplier engineered equipment (SEE), resolving in-service safety or reliability issues, and technical support to maintainers, operators, and customers/users of T56/501K and Helicopter engines.

  • Work with Global ET&S Capability Leads to secure the required internal resources or managed service providers to deliver controls solutions

  • Manage workload, prioritization, resource allocation, and budget for the assigned T56/Helo Controls Team and ensure that work is performed to the appropriate technical standards/processes, to the required time frames

  • Ensure controls (system, mechanical hardware, electrical hardware, software) engineering load and capacity are consistent with combined programs budgets, exercising program change control where appropriate to ensure balance

  • Working with the Group ET&S Capability Leads, provide technical leadership, guidance, coaching and mentoring to assigned engineers to deliver program requirements and enable them to be their best

  • Be the Controls Technical Lead to internal/external operations, external customers and certification authorities

  • Ensure program and product cyber security requirements met

  • Work with the Group ET&S Capability Leads to identify training, skills gaps or competency needs with the team and provide skill development opportunities to enable successful delivery

  • Champion engineering performance metrics, including commitment to continuous improvement

Qualifications

Basic:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience or

  • Master’s degree and 3+ years of experience

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to be eligible for consideration

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or relevant field with 10+ years of related experience, OR

  • A Masters degree in Engineering or relevant field with 7+ years experience, OR

  • JD/PhD in Engineering or relevant field with 5+ years experience

  • Knowledge of key processes required to deliver and support controls product solutions , including product design change management and risk management processes

  • Proven experience of 5 years or more of successfully delivering technical projects/tasks to time, cost and quality, and leadership of teams to do the same

  • Experience and knowledge of T56/501K product line and/or Helicopters product line, regulatory framework and customers

  • Breadth of controls engineering experience across functi
