Magnetic resonance imaging technologists, also referred to as MRI technologists, utilize magnetic resonance imaging scanners to capture specific images ordered by a physician to aid in patient diagnosis. MRI technologists must be able to closely follow a physician's instructions, prepare and operate MRI equipment, position patients correctly, and effectively record the requested diagnostic images. 

 
A caregiver in this position works variable shifts from 6:30 a.m. -- 7:30 p.m. with Saturday rotation every seven weeks required.
 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Prepare and check patients prior to MRI procedure. 
  • Acquire and review patient questionnaire, chart and data/requisition to determine contraindication of having MRI examination. 
  • Verify and validate the patient screening safety form. 
  • Perform MRI procedures required per protocol and perform daily QA. 
  • Perform venipunctures. 
  • Educate patients regarding MRI procedures, equipment and exams. 
  • Ensure patients' comfort and safety during and after the exam. 
  • Assist with scheduling patients. 
  • Administer proper contrast related to patient having MRI exam. 
  • Acquire, archive, transmit and print images via PACS. 
  • Complete after-hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork. 
  • Immediately report any malfunctions, observe potential equipment dysfunctions and report problems or call for service. 
  • Maintain available equipment up-time at the highest level for patient accessibility. 
  • Process billing via RIS. 
  • Potentially rotate through all imaging modalities, sites, and/or locations. 

 
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology or graduate of an accredited institution per the primary pathway of the ARRT 
  • Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists R.T.(R) (ARRT), or R.T.(S)(ARRT), or R.T.(T)(ARRT), in good standing.  
  • OR Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists R.T.(N) (ARRT) in good standing or be a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) through the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board. ARDMS and NMTCB are primary pathways 
  • Certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging: R.T.(MR)(ARRT) required within one year of hire 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification 
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and related pathologic processes 

 
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • One year of experience as a General Radiologic Technologist or experience in other imaging modalities
