The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher specializing in materials design, PFAS oxidation and reduction chemistry. Candidates must have demonstrated experience conducting laboratory experiments assessing PFAS oxidation and reduction technology performance. These experiences can range from fundamental chemistry experiments to pilot scale technology demonstrations. The candidate will interact with an interdisciplinary research team of faculty, post-docs, graduate and undergraduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently to design and conduct laboratory bench-scale experiments. The position is for a minimum of one year, renewable depending on performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Publish research in high quality journals
  • Prepare quarterly research reports
  • Assist in proposal writing
  • Present findings at national and international professional
    conferences.
  • Work in interdisciplinary teams, meet deadlines, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate Degree Required
  • Strong experimental skills
  • Have strong communication, effective English language oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with LC-MS/MS (QqQ) and/or Q-TOF analysis to quantify/characterize PFAS degradation products, and the ability to collect and analyze data on solid materials characterization (XRD, XPS, BET, SEM/TEM).
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
