POSITION OVERVIEW:
Real Estate Transaction Services (RETS) is the City’s primary department for financial analysis, structuring, and the execution of real estate and economic development transactions. RETS promotes economic development and neighborhood revitalization by leveraging City-owned real estate and partnerships with the private sector.

Your Role: The Business Operations Manager will work with RETS team leadership to deliver on organizational priorities, facilitate internal governance and communications, and make the department run. You will manage budgeting and reporting for the division and its projects, field inquires across NYCEDC and from outside stakeholders, design and implement process improvements, facilitate procurements and closings, and lead special initiatives. Tasks may also include representing the EVPs in meetings and at events when required and appropriate. The Special Projects Manager/Business Operations Manager will have broad exposure to the administration, policy, and development projects shaping the future of New York City.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee RETS operations in order to drive outcomes, collaboration, and completion of projects.
- Prepare and finalize annual budgets and revenue projections for RETS.
- Provide monthly budgeting reports to RETS leadership and other departments in NYCEDC, such as Financial Planning & Analysis.
- Own trackers, master-lists, and organizational charts for RETS projects and team members.
- Collaborate on planning for professional-development and team-building events
- Oversee RETS’ hiring process, onboarding, and retention efforts
- Serve as a primary RETS point-of-contact for NYCEDC, NYC government agencies, and external stakeholders.
- Respond to inquiries from property owners, developers, and community stakeholders.
- Direct requests from NYCEDC departments such as Planning, Government & Community Relations, and Asset Management to project managers and RETS leadership.
- Aggregate and circulate data and project information for regulatory reporting, briefings, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders (e.g., NYCEDC Board of Trustees, City Hall, and City agencies).
- Assist RETS transactions from inception to closing, as-needed
- Facilitate closings, legal-document execution, and procurements by developing checklists, assembling document packages, and securing signatures.
- Coordinate project handoffs from RETS to other NYCEDC departments in connection to deal closings.
- Undertake special projects, as needed
- Produce external-facing presentations, talking points, and materials for RETS leadership where appropriate and in coordination with NYCEDC External Affairs.
- Coordinate presentations, brown-bag lunches, and panel interviews with real-estate industry leaders.
- Complete discrete analyses for RETS leadership, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors Degree in relevant field (i.e. urban planning, real estate, administration, business, real estate, public policy, or finance) required.
- 3+ years in business operations, urban planning, government, corporate development, consulting, public affairs, and/or legal support preferred; equivalent experience with project management and business administration will be considered.
- Experience with project management duties including project implementation from conception to completion.
- Outstanding relationship management, communications (written and verbal) and presentations skills.
- Proven strength in the use of spreadsheets, database and presentation applications.
- Demonstrated accountability, drive, and track record for delivering results.
- Understanding of economic development issues and NYC government preferred.
- Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills.
- New York City residence is required within 180 days of hire.
