Job Objective:

Manages pharmacy personnel and ensures the safe and effective management of high-cost agents in the treatment of high-risk patients. Ensures compliance with corporate and hospital policies and procedures and compliance with State and Federal regulations regarding Pharmacy practices. Assists in fiscal planning with departmental budgets.

Education:
Required: Pharmacy degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy


Licensure/Certification:
Required: California Board of Pharmacy License
Preferred: Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Certification (BCOP) 


Experience:
Required: Five (5) years of pharmacist experience in inpatient, clinical, or oncology pharmacy practice with two (2) years of leadership experience
 

Reports To: Director-Pharmacy
Supervises: Infusion Center Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians
Ages of Patients: Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric
Blood Borne Pathogens: Minimal/ No Potential

Ability to communicate with patients, healthcare professionals, and staff to ensure clear and accurate exchange of information, Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations in a calm and professional manner, Ability to lead by example, demonstrating integrity, transparency, and accountability in decision-making and actions, Ability to oversee inventory management, medication preparation and dispensing, and medication administration, Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines, Critical thinking and data analysis skills, Knowledge and ability to apply age-specific principles of pharmacology, Knowledge of the pharmaceutical agents, specialty pharmaceuticals, and investigational drugs used throughout the institution, Observation skills, Proficiency in assessing the appropriateness of medication use to optimally and cost-effectively treat the condition of the patient, Proficiency in complying with hospital P&P, State and Federal healthcare laws, including USP 797 standards, Proficiency in detecting, preventing, and reporting adverse drug events and medication errors, Proficiency in educating the patient and healthcare team members on the appropriate and cost-effective use of medications, Proficiency in ensuring the safety use of medications, Proficiency in interdisciplinary problem solving and interactive team building skills, Proficiency in managing medication reconciliation, Proficiency in supervising Pharmacy Technicians, Written and verbal communication skills

Essential Responsibilities

1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations. 
2. Serves as the pharmacist-in-charge (PIC) for the infusion center pharmacies.
3. Provides regulatory expertise and oversight for USP 795/797/800, Joint Commission, CA State Board of Pharmacy, CDPH, and QOPI
4. Acts as lead in Joint Commission, CDPH, Board of Pharmacy or oncology accreditation surveys.  
5. Supervises and schedules the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians working at the Infusion Center.
6. Participates in interviewing, hiring, evaluating, disciplining, and counseling staff members.
7. Oversees and performs tasks associated with the 340B program as needed.
8. Performs tasks for research/IRB projects as needed.
9. Precepts Pharmacy Residents and assists with pharmacy residency-related tasks.
10. Manages existing procedures and protocols and implements newly designed procedures and protocols. 
11. Participates and/or leads projects supporting clinical pharmacy services related to organizational needs. 
12. Supports the organization's preparedness for regulatory and quality measures.
13. Provides ongoing instruction and training in all clinical endeavors, protocols, etc., to all Pharmacists, Residents, and Pharmacy staff.
14. Collaborates with pharmacy management team in provision of clinical pharmacy services within the specialty area.
15. Consistently resolves all problems within the workspace and completes assigned work assignments during shift without interference to the quality of work performed while providing assistance and oversight to staff in the space.
16. Conforms to all policies and procedures associated with formulary management, clinical interventional monitoring services and outcome monitoring services while identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing those initiatives.
