Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Revenue is seeking to hire a Legislative Assistant dministrative Assistant I) to serve as administrative support to the Office of Legislative Affairs. Having a high level of discretion will be key for the successful candidate as highly confidential documents and phone calls are filtered through this office. This individual will work closely with the Director of Legislative Affairs to ensure the commitments and responsibilities of the Office are met in a timely manner; therefore, he/she must be resourceful and adaptable. The ideal candidate must additionally possess strong organizational skills and be able to prioritize tasks and responsibilities and to multi-task when demands dictate. It is important that this candidate is dependable and able to work independently. In addition, having excellent written and verbal communication is extremely important as this candidate will have to communicate with upper-level management, the public, the Governor's Office, members of the General Assembly, legislative staff, officials, and other governmental agencies. Essential Functions
- Under direction, fields constituent and taxpayer inquiries directed to the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA).
- Reviews and assists OLA staff with analysis of pending legislation.
- Assists with development of IDOR legislative proposals.
- Serves as administrator of the Legislative Tracking System (LTS).
- Serves as area timekeeper.
- Conducts a variety of secretarial and administrative tasks necessary to the operations of the office.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in public or business administration.
- Requires one year of professional experience in a public or private organization, -OR- completion of an agency approved professional management training program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience accessing and researching taxpayer accounts in GenTax or similar tax processing software.
- One (1) year of experience working with legislative processes.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word or similar word processing software.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Access or
