Position Overview

The QC Lab Technician will be responsible for asphalt binder testing in accordance with TXDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM standards.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Testing of asphalt binder samples in accordance with applicable specifications, QC Plan, and Quality Management System.
  • Monitor and test asphalt binder samples daily or when assigned to ensure our products meet or exceed the requirements of the appropriate agency or customer.
  • Keeps the laboratory consistently clean and organized.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate in English.
  • Accurate reporting of test results including any abnormalities.
  • Acquiring the TxDOT binder technician certification in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively and work well as a team.
  • Safely and efficiently collect samples from the asphalt binder tanks for testing. Provide for the storage of asphalt binder retains.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize assignments to meet long-term and short-term deadlines.
  • Help maintain AASHTO accreditation for the lab, including standardization and maintenance of the lab testing equipment, participation of round robin program, preparation for yearly inspection, and other required activities by AASHTO.
  • Follow the directions and instructions of the Liquid Asphalt Technical Manager.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures.
  • Maintain reliable attendance, meeting company standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work independently or with little supervision.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work OT and weekends when necessary.
  • Report to the job in uniform with proper PPE and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to Texas Materials policies and procedures as outlined in the Texas Region Employee Handbook.

  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform and / or learn to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

  • Associate degree required in a science or technical field.
