Job Summary
Provides direct field safety support and contributes to the development, maintenance, and improvement of safety programs and site conditions across assigned workgroups, assets, and the UGI Energy Services Safety Management System (SMS). Works alongside field personnel and supervisors to identify and control workplace hazards, build trust-based working relationships, and support a culture where safety is understood as an organizational capacity: the ongoing ability of people and systems to anticipate, adapt to, and absorb the variability inherent in real work.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct field safety assessments, job site inspections, and hazard identification and control activities across assigned facilities to verify that risks are recognized and addressed before work begins, controls are in place, and work execution aligns with established controls and safe work practices.
- Build effective, trust-based relationships with field employees, supervisors, and management through consistent field presence, clear communication, and follow-through.
- Mentor and coach field employees and supervisors on safe work practices, hazard recognition, and risk thinking, building safety capability through influence, credibility, and trusted relationships.
- Develop, revise, and facilitate training on safety policies, procedures, job hazard analyses, and safe work plans, ensuring field personnel possess the skills and ability to identify hazards and apply appropriate controls in the context of real work.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, safety concerns, and high-potential events using structured methodology; document findings, identify contributing factors, and drive corrective and preventive actions to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs and procedures, including contractor safety management, aligned with regulatory requirements, operational realities, and organizational safety objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to build trust and credibility with management, supervision, and field employees
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance for field audiences
- Working knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, and hierarchy of controls as applied to renewable natural gas and midstream natural gas field operations
- Experience writing and maintaining safety policies, procedures, and job hazard analyses
- Ability to plan, organize, and facilitate effective safety training for operational personnel
- Intermediate/advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (PPT, Word, Excel, SharePoint, OneNote, etc.)
- Thorough knowledge of applicable regulations (29 CFR 1910, 29 CFR 1926, OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, PHMSA)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and workgroups simultaneously across a dynamic operational environment
- Experience with leading and participating in incident investigations and the development of meaningful corrective actions
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in safety, occupational health, or a related field; and/or 5+ years of direct field safety experience
- At least 3 years of safety experience in energy, natural gas, oil & gas, renewable energy, or related industrial operations (preferred)
- Active certification through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (CSP, ASP, CHST, GSP, other)
- Field safety experience in any of the following areas: Renewable natural gas (RNG), midstream natural gas, oil & gas, construction, or electrical industry
- Familiarity with occupational health and safety management system frameworks such as ANSI/ASSP Z10.0, I
