ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION
Reporting to the Sr. Associate Director of Finance and Administration, the Assistant Director of Finance and Administration will supervise and manage the Business Coordinator in the day-to-day activities within the business office and administrative suite of University Recreation (UREC). These include the areas of payroll, accounts payable/travel, procurement, accounts receivable, and cash handling. This position will prepare and distribute monthly financial statements as well as assists in preparing an annual $12.5 million operating budget.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE :
- Help UREC staff to maintain accurate and timely practices for budget management.
- Assists with compliance for UREC to ensure that all university business policies, procedures, and guidelines are followed .
- Train UREC professional staff in LSU practices for business operations.
- Communicate changes and updates from the university affecting business to the UREC professional staff .

The Assistant Director will have the opportunity to analyze current UREC business processes and identify strengths and weaknesses by developing a holistic understanding of how UREC works and learning how changes in one system may impact other parts of the department. After determining what improvements to make, this position will develop step-by-step procedures and timelines for modifications as well as trains others on these changes in best practices or workflows.
Lead and empower peers
The Assistant Director will need to lead through influence with business and administrative skills but not positional authority, meaning they will not supervise all professional staff but play an important role in the success of each function of UREC. They will manage peers in enacting the university’s and department’s business policies and procedures requiring a professional and collaborative approach to supporting colleagues. The Assistant Director will work with others to accomplish departmental goals while adhering to the policies, procedures, and guidelines set by the state and university.
