A day in the life

As a Senior Property Accountant on our property tax team in our downtown Denver office, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of property tax operations, including accruals, payments, and reconciliations.  A significant part of the role will involve ensuring timely and accurate handling of property tax accruals and true ups, posting and reviewing intercompany tax fees, and addressing specific property tax requirements, such as California Proposition 13. Your expertise will help maintain accurate financial records and compliance with applicable laws and regulations, contributing to our business's financial success.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct and review Blackline account reconciliations prepared by the team.
  • Conduct and review the preparation of monthly property tax accruals, ensuring accuracy, and perform detailed reviews to maintain financial integrity.
  • Conduct and review the preparation and execution of timely property tax payments to various jurisdictions, avoiding penalties and interest charges.
  • Oversee property tax direct billing processes, ensuring proper invoicing and payment facilitation.
  • Conduct and review property tax true-ups and Yardi .csv files for seamless integration into our property management system.
  • Post and review intercompany tax fees yearly from Boston and ensure a thorough review is completed in Blackline Property Taxes Certified by the specified deadline.
  • Address California Proposition 13 property tax needs, staying up to date on regulations and ensuring compliance.
  • Support and collaborate with the team on Chicago yearly tax reconciliations with customers.
  • Assist with property tax refunds, work closely with customers to reimburse them correctly, and maintain the designated refund account (240010) with precision.
  • Help prepare and/or review mid-year and annual cam reconciliations.
  • Participate in SOX testing on a rotating basis to contribute to internal control compliance as a company.
  • Actively participate in at least one project, contributing to significant initiatives and demonstrating collaborative and individual proficiencies.
  • Coordinate trainings for property accountants and answer questions to facilitate internal growth within property accounting. 
  • Other tasks necessary.

Building blocks for success

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in property accounting or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statements, and property accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving and organization skills in routine and complex tasks assigned in order to make significant contributions to critical projects and objectives of team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written, across all levels of the organization.
  • Keen attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate and timely financial data.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service across organization timely and consistently.  Ensures team does the same.

Hiring Salary Range of: $88,000 - $108,000. Salary and whole compensation package (bonus target) to be determined by the candidate’s location, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
