Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Company is looking for a Structural Analysis Engineer based out of North Charleston, SC that will be a part of a high-performing team that is immersed in high development projects in support of the 787 Production System. 

The Structures Life Cycle Product Team (LCPT) is responsible for innovation and maintaining the 787 airplane from developmental changes, through incorporation of changes in the Quality Management System (QMS). It also does surveillance of airline customer impacts routinely in collaboration with 787 Fleet Chiefs office.

The team is responsible for the Type Design for the 787 Structure within the various fuselage sections, including structural engineering oversight of our Partners (Spirit, KHI and Leonardo).  The team's day to day activities include interfacing with production, supply chain, and other functions on engineering technical questions. The team leads change coordination, cost-down initiatives, rate enabler design changes and improvement and resolution to service-related issues for safety and reliability within each volume. Interfacing with the 787 Chief Product Engineer and Director of Engineer exist on occasion.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Works under general supervision, and no instructions are needed for routine work. Receives general instructions for special assignments. Work is reviewed for sound technical judgment and overall adequacy.
  • Interacts primarily with internal personnel and infrequently with inter-organizational and external customers on routine matters.
  • Contributes to the completion of specific project milestones. Failure to achieve results, reaching erroneous decisions or making faulty recommendations may cause delays in program schedules and may result in the allocation of additional resources.
  • Makes use of and applies job practices, techniques, standards, principles, theories, and concepts.

The selected candidate will be required to perform work onsite in North Charleston, SC.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor’s, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • 2+ years of experience working with aircraft structure design or an equivalent combination of technical education.
  • 1+ years of experience with composite structures and fuselage stress analysis
  • Ability to support regular and emergent domestic or international travel to support our customers. (Willing to travel up to 10% of the time).

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Excellent communication and project management skills, along with the ability to make decisions and deliver results.
  • Committed to finding a way to resolve problems and keep commitments.
  • Experience working structural activities with Boeing airplanes.
  • Experience providing customer support services to airlines.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • 1+ years of experience in Model-Based Engineering (MBE)/ Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), CATIA, ENOVIA and PDM.

Typical Education/ Work Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Bachelor) in an engineering classification from an accredited course of study

ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not a required, accreditation standard.

Experienced: Typically, 2 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineer
