1. GENERAL POSITION INFORMATION

Position Name: Assistant/Associate Professor – Clinical Mental Health Counseling (Online/Remote)

Classification: Exempt, benefitted

FTE: Full-time

Work Hours: Variable due to online nature of program. Generally, 9a-3p PST M-F, with remainder on evenings or weekends. UWS has a 37.5 hr work week.

2. POSITION SUMMARY

The assistant/associate professor of the clinical mental health counseling program is responsible for teaching 12 courses per academic year, including clinical or academic courses. The administrative load includes advising and assisting the Director with curriculum development, assessment, accreditation, and committee participation. The candidate for this position must be eligible for inclusion as core, full faculty for MPCAC and CACREP accreditation. Candidates should be familiar with the MS in Counseling degree and the integrated CMHC/SPP EdD degree offered by the University since they will be teaching students enrolled in both disciplines.

3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching (80%)

Teach 12 courses per academic year including those related to counseling theory; psychopathology; professional identity; multiculturism; ethics; counseling methods; research; tests and assessments; group counseling; career counseling; clinical practicum and internship; and specialty areas including sport and performance psychology. Prepare syllabi; update course materials; participate in course and program learning outcome assessments; continuously improve course materials; and develop curriculum. Deliver instruction in an online learning environment using available university learning management and HIPAA-compliant document storage systems. Provide detailed feedback on student assignments in a timely and constructive manner while working to maintain engaging and respectful interactions with students. Provide ethical clinical supervision to practicum and internship students and consulting mentorship to sport and performance psychology students including review of student recordings, case conceptualization reports, self-evaluations, site and site supervisor evaluations, hours logs, and all required documentation related to site development and maintenance. Demonstrate a commitment to building a learning community empowered through multicultural perspectives that lead to cultural competence and emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion for students, staff, and faculty.

Advising and Student Relations (10%)

Work with Student Success to facilitate precise records of student coursework, update planners, and to assist students in course registration Hold quarterly advising meetings and with advisees on an as-needed basis Aid students working with difficult courses or life challenges that may interrupt degree completion, including referral to student services, other departments, or development of remediation plans, with demonstrated thoughtfulness about issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion that could impact student performance. Provide written documentation upon request. Effectively communicate institutional standards for graduation. Work effectively with Registrar to report concerns about student program enrollment or transcript information. Participate in Program admissions 10 hours per quarter. Work effectively with Program Director in student remediation.

Scholarship, Service and Professional Identity (10%)

Maintain memberships with American Counseling Association, as well as state and regional professional associations. Maintain licensure and supervision credentials, including personal liability insurance. Based on professional expertise, serve as dissertation chair for one student annually. Consistently engage in professional writing and publication efforts, including with students when possible. Participate in research with program peers and other university staff when possible. Assist students to present or publish at state, regional, or national association conferences or in periodicals or peer-reviewed journals. Participate in university service through committee work, collaborations, and ad hoc projects/initiatives.
