Position Summary

The successful candidate’s major responsibilities will center around the planning and implementation of mixed-methods research studies in the People, Health, and Place (PHP) Unit of the Prevention Research Center. PHP Unit research projects assess the role of built and natural environment features on health behaviors such as physical activity, the effective and culturally relevant dissemination and implementation of health and place research, and measuring and alleviating the inequitable health impacts of global climate change.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Research program support, including:

• Plan and implement research studies.
• Oversee qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.
• Ensure project adherence to funding requirements and ethical guidelines.
• Help develop research and human subjects protocols.
• Prepare progress and final reports for research studies, and communicate progress to study stakeholders.
• Assist with the development and presentation of research study results (e.g., oral presentations, conference posters, scientific manuscripts, press releases, etc.).
• In some instances, act directly as study coordinator.

PHP Unit Coordination

• Manage and coordinate PHP unit activities, including scheduling and leading PHP unit meetings and serving as the primary administrative contact for internal and PHP external partners.
• Prepare regular priority task lists and reports for the different components of the unit (research, coursework, capacity building, partnerships).
• Maintain the PHP Unit webpage.
• Manage budgetary expenditures in cooperation with PRC financial manager.
• Develop and implement PHP activities timelines.

Supervise Project Staff

• Hire Unit staff, including student research assistants.
• Coordinate teams including project coordinators, research assistants, and data collectors.

Assist in grant development.

Other duties as assigned.

Job Location

The individual hired for this position will work in an office setting at the Brown School and/or remotely, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer a bachelor’s degree and five years of job-related experience, or master’s degree in public health, social work, social sciences, public policy, or a relevant field and at least 3 years of job-related experience, with two years or more of experience with mixed-methods studies including quantitative and qualitative data sources and analysis.
• Experience with community-engaged and/or participatory research methods e.g., group model building, citizen science, health impact assessment, participatory evaluation, team science, etc.
• Research interest and experience in the built environment, global health, health equity, and/or social and environmental determinants of health.
• CITI training for human subjects research.
• Strong skills in statistical, spatial, and/or qualitative Arc.
• Excellent interpersonal, writing, and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work with and effectively supervise diverse groups of people (e.g., research participants, students, funders/study stakeholders, faculty), including in international contexts.
• Strong analytic skills and the ability to think strategically and programmatically.
• Ability to represent the Unit and projects effectively with scholars, students, and community groups.
• Ability to work independently, demonstrate attention to detail, and exercise outstanding judgment.
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks in a complex organizational environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
• Excellent project management, organizational, and time management skills.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant project management or research, or a master’s degree and at least one year of relevant project management or research experience, or seven or more years of relevant project management experience in a research institution.

Salary Range

$47,000.00 - $85,200.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
