DS Bus is seeking an Assistant Director of Maintenance. The ideal candidate is a multi-task-oriented vehicle maintenance professional that possesses strong leadership and maintenance skills. This position is responsible for directing, planning, and implementing the preventive maintenance and repair of School buses, light duty, and paratransit vehicles over multiple fleet maintenance facilities in assigned states.The position is a supervisory position for Fleet Managers, Supervisors, Technicians and Parts personnel. Responsible for preventive maintenance compliance, DOT compliance, cost per mile, direct labor, mean time between failure and spend within budget along with other standards to be developed.This position reports to the Region Director of Fleet Maintenance.This position reports to work Mon-Fri, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm. Weekends and holidays may be required. Salary depends on training and experience $115,000 and $125,000.Job Responsibilities
  • Set the standard for excellence in the maintenance department. Manages the full fleet of school buses, light duty vehicles and support equipment within the assigned area, in alignment with Beacon objectives.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the preventive maintenance and repair program to ensure vehicle safety and operating efficiency
  • Prioritize areas workload based on customer requirements, parts availability, and manpower
  • Ensures regulatory compliance with all state and local laws and regulations related to vehicle maintenance
  • Manage the Inspection (DOT, State, Emissions) process in accordance with applicable State and Federal policies and regulations
  • Manage the staff with responsibility for hiring, training, scheduling work assignments, managing performance, disciplining, and authorizing overtime
  • Regularly communicate with operations regarding status of fleet vehicles, and/or other equipment
  • Maintain adherence to company policy regarding operations and safety issues. Maintain a safe and productive work environment for all employees.
  • Control maintenance costs relating to personnel, purchasing, inventory control and outsourcing of repairs
  • Create and ensure accuracy of parts & fluids inventories
  • Assist in the purchasing of new vehicles, equipment, by providing input regarding vehicle specifications
  • Assure all data pertaining to the maintenance operation is available for input into the vehicle maintenance system in an accurate and timely manner
  • Ensures compliance with Beacon goals and KPI’s established for maintenance.
  • Interact in a professional manner with employees, vendors, suppliers and contractors
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
  • Vocational training in automotive technology or equivalent, and (10) years of experience related to heavy or light vehicle maintenance.
  • Minimum of 5 yrs. experience in managing a large work group with demonstrated performance as well as managing remote locations
  •  ASE Master Medium or Heavy Truck and Master Automobile certifications preferred
  • Specific training and/or extensive experience in maintenance or a related field, preferably in a supervisory role position, is required.
  • Prior experience in supervising, directing, and/or training employees is required.
  • Prior experience with Fleet Management Information systems (FMIS)
  • Advanced PC Skills - MS Office with an emphasis on Excel. Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technology (Comdata, NetSuite, etc).
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills obtaining buy-in and reaching consensus through collaborative efforts.
  • Respond to correspondence (phone, email, etc.) with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness
  • Customer oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor
