Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position

The Sign Technician Senior provides leadership, direction, and training to Sign Technicians in the installation and maintenance of roadway signs and specialty signs in accordance with MUTCD standards and engineering specifications. In addition to regular Sign Technician duties, the Sign Technician Senior acts as Crew Leader for special projects and complex sign installation activities.

We Require

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Five years of sign installation and maintenance experience

  • Valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and have an acceptable driving record

  • ATSSA (or equal) Traffic Technician and Supervisor certification

  • State and federal regulations require Maricopa County to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for all positions that require an applicant to possess a commercial driver’s license (CDL). Maricopa County is also required to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for positions that directly impact commercial motor vehicle safety, but may not specifically require a valid CDL

We Also Value

  • One or more years of lead or supervisory experience

  • Signs and Marking Specialist Level 1 + 2 Certification equal to the IMSA Signs and Pavement Markings

  • Experience using specialized tools and equipment related to traffic signing installation, including computers and tablets

Job Contributions

  • Train others in both a classroom setting and field environment in safety procedures, policies, precautions, and efficient methods to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures. Provide leadership and direction to sign technicians

  • Actively participate and accomplish organizational, departmental, and workgroup goals and objectives

  • Ensure tasks are completed on time in Cartegraph and comply with MUTCD standards and engineering specifications

  • Operate and/or maintain a variety of medium and/or heavy equipment, utility vehicles that may require a CDL, tools, diagnostic and measuring devices, and/or other specialized equipment

  • Request equipment, materials, and consumables as required within the limits of authority

  • Review work schedule, and prepare materials and equipment

  • Enforce safety rules through ongoing communication and safety meetings

  • Monitor the use of materials and care of equipment to minimize waste and damage

  • Other job duties as ass
