Position Summary:
Reporting to the Program Manager, Desert & Salton Sea, the Senior Coordinator, Education will develop and implement environmental monitoring, youth-education, public, and volunteer programming for the California Desert and Salton Sea Programs. The focus will be to develop and implement biological monitoring including bird, water, and soil surveys around the Salton Sea, and to develop and implement school programs including, outdoor field trips, classroom visits as well as coordinating and running our Audubon Youth Programs. The Senior Coordinator, Education will plan community programs, workshops, and events for families and adult participants, including community science projects, both for the Salton Sea and California Desert communities. The Senior Coordinator, Education will serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, lead volunteer recruitment and communication, as well as plan and lead volunteer workdays, trainings, and related activities. The Senior Coordinator, Education will also create content for social media aimed at raising the profile of the California Desert and Salton Sea.
Compensation:
$66,650 / yea

Essential Functions
Coordinate logistics of education programs with teachers and other audiences, including marketing and promotion, registration, scheduling, and pre &post visit communication.
In collaboration with the CA Desert & Salton Sea team, develop and implement creative and engaging nature science and conservation curriculum for high school, college students, public and the Audubon Youth Leaders cohort through field trips, classroom visits, workshops, and community programs.
Develop and implement the Salton Sea Climate Steward Program in collaboration with the University of California Riverside (UCR) Staff, Audubon Staff, and local volunteers.
Assist the Program Manager, Desert & Salton Sea with staffing and oversight of seasonal education staff, including interns and volunteer educators.
Collect and report data on programs and participants, including evaluations, registration numbers, anecdotes, and photos for grant, donor, and annual reporting purposes.
In collaboration with the Program Manager, Desert & Salton Sea develop a volunteer program, including recruitment, retention, and training.
Provide regular and consistent communication to volunteers and maintain all volunteer records and necessary documentation. Work closely with program area leads to identify and schedule volunteer workdays and enrichment programs.
Work closely with the Program Manager, Desert & Salton, to develop and implement the biological monitoring at Salton Sea and Desert Lands, including quarterly bird surveys, water sampling, and soil sampling.
Plan and implement community science programs and projects.
Collaborate with Audubon colleagues to ensure equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles are incorporated into Audubon Salton Sea and Desert Program.
Interact professionally and positively with students, teachers, parents, and volunteers.
Participate in on-the-job and/or formal training opportunities.
Support reporting and development projects in conjunction with the Program Manager, Desert & Salton, Director, or other Audubon staff.
Identify communication opportunities and develop blogposts and other social media content to engage Audubon stakeholders.
Collaborate with Program Director to organize and execute fundraising and outreach events.
Work closely with the CA Desert and Salton Sea Manager to coordinate on-site research projects.
Other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences, education, or a related field.
At least three years of experience working with children and adults in an outdoor educational setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
Background in educational program design and assessment, knowledge of wildlife conservation issues
Experience leading groups and teaching groups of students.
Must enjoy working with the public and youth of all ages in an outdoor setting.
Experience working with volunteers.
Knowledge of Salton Sea and California Desert birds, plants, wildlife, and California natural and cultural history encouraged.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills with ability to effectively engage with program attendees, volunteers, public visitors, board members and other staff.
