Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the PI, the Staff Research Associate II (SRA II) will conduct studies with a mouse model of white matter stroke examining acute injury mechanisms to axons and oligodendrocytes. The SRA II will have had prior training and experience with rodent survival surgeries and other techniques. Additionally, you must have prior experience in neuroscience or related field and be able to operate independently when performing experiments. Duties include, but are not limited to: perform precise stereotactic surgeries on mice, handle and inject lentiviral constructs into brain, process tissue for histological and immunohistochemical stains, independently run research project(s) on mouse stroke modeling and injury response, supervise undergraduate lab helpers, train graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in mouse surgery, drug and lentiviral delivery, participate in lab maintenance, supply ordering and all compliance tasks required for biohazard and chemical disposal protocols, perform PCR, gel electrophoresis, manage transgenic mice colonies, and perform cell culturing.


Salary Range: $28.88 - $46.46/Hourly

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • BS or BA in biological science or related experience.
  • Previous work in neuroscience or brain research fields.
  • Previous experience with mouse or rat survival surgeries and/or behavioral testing.
  • Ability to learn new software or laboratory techniques as needed.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting scientific journal articles in order to stay current in laboratory techniques and protocols.
  • Excellent verbal and written fluency in English.
  • Ability to cut and process tissue for histological and immunohistochemical stains using a cryostat.


Preferred:

  • Familiarity with modern molecular biology tools including lentivral handling and use.
  • Familiarity or expertise in the use of epifluorescent and confocal microscopy.
