National Grid is hiring a Senior Engineer, Electric Control and Instrumentation in Hicksville, NY.
Job Purpose
The Senior Electrical Engineer reports to the Instrumentation and Controls Engineering Manager in the Power Engineering Department (PED) and will have the opportunity to support and lead internal and external team members collaborating on new projects, regulatory requirements, and improvements to our existing fleet of steam and gas turbine units on Long Island and explore opportunities in renewable energy projects. The engineer in this role will also be involved with performing technical, financial, and operational evaluations of new and existing I&C assets. Assets include process control instrumentation, PLC’s, DCS’s, communication networks and safety instrumented systems. The engineer will evaluate aspects of project design, licensing, process safety, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations. This role is responsible to develop design, specifications, and procedures on projects.
Key Accountabilities
• Serve as the project manager and/or project engineer during the engineering, design, construction, and operation of projects on retrofit of existing generating assets and new energy development opportunities.
• Perform asset evaluation to determine maintenance and investment requirements.
• Perform safety, environmental, and financial risk analysis.
• Develop cost estimates, benefit analysis, and risk assessment on projects.
• Perform engineering calculations and studies to support project scope.
• Develop specifications, standards, and procedures for projects.
• Provide technical evaluations of new energy development projects and alternatives in areas like energy storage, solar, relay protection, and combustion turbines.
• Research and evaluate new and emerging technologies for application in new projects, existing assets to offer value to the customer and load serving entity.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is required.
• 6 Years of cumulative work experience with Bachelor’s or 4 years cumulative work experience with PE.
• Engineering in Training (EIT) is required.
• New York State Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
• Energetic, creative, capable, and committed to promoting innovative ideas and achieving or exceeding objectives.
• Self-starter who is comfortable leading and managing efforts.
• Able to engage others to successful results.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and change.
• Analytical and solution-based thinking.
• Work independently and collaboratively on multiple projects, including high visibility initiatives.
• Capable of working in a matrix organization and achieve results.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Power Point applications.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD preferred.
• Experience in managing internal and external project teams.
• Familiar with power generating equipment and support systems.
• Familiar with project management including product development, construction, commissioning, and operation.
• Familiar with electrical relay protection and substation equipment.
• Familiar with energy storage equipment, solar, wind, and electric generating systems.
• Familiar with project cost/benefit and risk analysis.
• Experience in communicating ideas, technical designs, and engineering concepts to others.
• Knowledge of electrical code and standards (i.e. NFPA, NEMA, UL, IEEE).
• Knowledge of NERC and NPCC standards.

$106,000 - $125,000 a year
