About the role

The Central Engineering's Steam and Gas Engineering Department is looking for highly motivated and dedicated professionals to join its Steam Projects Civil Section. Candidates should be organized, detail-oriented, and capable of making sound technical decisions while managing multiple tasks. They must have strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with internal and external customers, agencies, and various management levels. Candidates should have a proven track record in providing engineering support for industrial/utility building design, analysis, inspection, repair, and construction field support. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, along with leadership experience in direct supervision and the ability to motivate others positively. Additionally, candidates must have strong computer skills, familiarity with the Incident Command System, and proficiency in MS Office. Availability for emergency work 24/7 as required by system conditions is also necessary. Core Responsibilities
  • The Engineer will be responsible for the complete management of selected projects; engineering and design of structures, systems and components (SSCs) of steam and electric generating stations, construction specifications, bid preparation and evaluation, appropriations, scheduling, construction field supports.
  • Prepare and/or direct the preparation of design packages (specifications/drawings) and the review of construction administration documents; serve as a consultant within the Company or industry in his or her area of specialization; perform cost benefit analysis/conduct conceptual studies to determine best designs; prepare or direct the preparation of budgets and appropriation requests for specific projects; perform calculations for specific projects and be required to direct, coordinate and review work of outside consultant, technicians and designers.
  • Ensure implementation of Company Safety, Health and Environmental programs for employees whose work is directed and ensure that safe work practices are followed, and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and environmental regulations.
  • Investigate, evaluate, and develop engineering responses to requests and concerns on generating stations SSCs.
  • Supervise both in-house and external design efforts.
  • The Engineer will provide direct field support in response to failures and respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis, when necessary.
  • Will be required to travel to all Con Edison sites requiring support.
Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and 8 years of applicable civil engineering work experience or
  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering and 6 years of applicable civil engineering work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Structural engineering experience in analyzing and designing various new SSCs and modifications to existing SSCs is required.
  • Strong technical knowledge in the design of all steel, concrete and masonry structures, and familiar with all applicable codes such as AISC, ACI, ASCE, NYC Building Code, etc. is required.
  • General engineering experience in building envelope restoration for various faade and roof systems, and general facility inspections is required.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
  • Project management experience that consists of field inspection, cost estimate, technical document development, review construction documents which include plans, specifications and bid packages is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of any engineering design analysis programs such as STAAD or SAP 2000 or equal, AutoCad, MathCad, etc. is strongly preferred. Knowledge of city, state and federal regulations for civil, structure, and architectural is preferred.
