Seeking applications for a qualified, self-motivated individual interested in a full-time Research Specialist position to study marine and estuary biogeochemistry under the direction of Dr. Xinping Hu of the Marine Science Institute at the University of Texas at Austin. This position is located on Port Aransas, TX.
Responsibilities
- Plan and participate field-sampling expeditions.
- Samples collection and analysis.
- Data analysis and assist with reports & manuscripts preparation.
- Maintain and oversee daily operation of laboratory.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor in chemistry, oceanography, or related field. Additional education above minimum requirement may substitute for experience requirement.
- Masters degree in related field.
- Four years of related experience.
- Prior experience in chemical analysis of environmental samples (instrumental and wet chemistry).
- Ability to conduct research tasks under a variety of weather conditions, and occasional evening and weekend hours.
- Working knowledge on Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary research team.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Field experience in marine and environmental research and/or small boat experience preferable.
- MS in chemistry, environmental science, or oceanography preferred.
- Familiar with Gran titration.
- Familiar with infrared analysis of carbon dioxide.
- Familiar with spectrophotometric analysis of seawater pH.
- Prior lab management experience.
Salary Range
$52,974 - $59,000
Working Conditions
- May work around corrosive chemicals and heavy metals in a lab setting
- May work in unideal weather conditions when conducting fieldwork
- May work around standard office condition
