What you will be doing

The Engineering Intern will support the drafting, design, and engineering teams by assisting with project documentation, CAD modeling, process improvement initiatives, and hands‑on problem‑solving within a manufacturing environment. This internship provides real‑world engineering experience in aluminum extrusion, production processes, and technical design workflows.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with 2D and 3D CAD modeling, updating drawings, and revising part files.
  • Support engineers and designers with technical documentation, prints, and engineering change updates.
  • Help analyze production issues by gathering data, observing processes, and participating in troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to process improvement projects, including time studies, layout updates, and workflow optimization.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide input on project status, ideas, and technical observations.
  • Maintain documentation accuracy while following Hydro standards, safety protocols, and quality expectations.
  • Assist with small design tasks, fixture design, basic calculations, or redlining as directed by engineering staff.
  • Perform additional duties needed to support ongoing engineering projects.

What will make you successful?

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • Completed at least one year of engineering coursework.
  • Basic proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar).
  • Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks (or plant‑specific software the team uses).
  • Familiarity with manufacturing environments or previous internship/co‑op experience.
  • Understanding of basic engineering principles such as tolerancing, material properties, and design intent.
