Position Specific Description
Palms Specialty Insurance Company, Inc. (Palms Specialty) is a Surplus lines insurance carrier domiciled in the State of Delaware and rated A- (Excellent) by AM Best. Palms Insurance Company, Ltd. is a Grand Cayman domiciled captive, registered as a Class B(iii) Insurer and regulated by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority and rated A (Excellent) by AM Best. Both Palms companies are wholly owned by Palms Portfolio Holdings, LLC.
As the Data & Tech Lead, you will be in charge of Palms’ application and database portfolio. You will lead and manage a team to support the in-house applications; and manage the external vendor provided applications. This team serves as he primary conduit for managing and maintaining the Palms Data Warehouse, Power BI Dashboard Reporting, ad-hoc data reporting. the Claims Management & Bordereaux (BDX) import systems. As Palms continues to grow, additional applications will get added to the portfolio.
Job Overview & Technical Skills
- Strong SQL skills and knowledge of transactional and columnar databases
- Strong Python skills and expert knowledge of Pandas
- Knowledge of data engineering and data warehousing concepts and best practices (AWS Glue and dbt experience preferred)
- Experience with Power BI data model design and writing measures in DAX
- Experience developing on AWS and knowledge of AWS services
- Full-stack (NodeJS/Javascript, HTML, CSS) development experience (Sveltekit, Tailwinds CSS experience preferred)
- Experience with Github Actions and JIRA preferred

- Provides leadership, influence, vision, and direction to the organization to contribute to achieving the company's goals
- Works with IT leaders to develop overall IT strategy in alignment with business strategy
- Oversees value stream by focusing on cost and risks of technology portfolio to meet business needs
- Supports and fosters innovative technologies to deliver new ideas that enable business transformation
- Ensures high levels of ongoing system and application performance in production environments
- Oversees development of processes and tools to automate code releases from development to operations (DevOps)
- Attracts, develops and retains a high-performing and diverse team
- Establishes and drives technology roadmaps that align with current and future business needs
- Manages third party technical and outsourcing relationships to deliver project and operational support objectives
- Ensures technology processes are conducted in line with applicable standards and company policies
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
- Experience: 4+ years
Preferred Qualifications
- Leadership Experience: 3+ years
- Insurance industry experience preferred
