Job Description
Paul D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a center in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates In transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center. A dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes are available at the college as well.
Overview of Instructional Responsibilities:
Camp is seeking a registered professional nurse to assume responsibility for planning, teaching, and evaluating students in the clinical, lab, and simulation areas. The instructor shares in the responsibility of providing quality instruction for the students. Faculty provide educational instruction for the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) students, Practical nursing students, and nurse aid students in the classroom, clinical, simulation, and lab setting, while meeting specific learning needs, dependent upon the students’ educational semester. The faculty will be responsible for all classroom content, assist with lab and skills settings, coordinate, develop, and implement simulated activities, and provide modules and orientation related to the assigned clinical facility. The faculty must ensure a positive, professional representation of the nursing profession and college at all times, while maintaining a supportive role for the students.
Clinical Duties & Responsibilities:
Meet all clinical partner requirements. Become familiar with the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the nursing program and the Nursing Student Handbook. Confer with the Lead Instructor/program dean regarding the clinical rotation plan, assigned clinical agencies, and assigned group of students. Plan a faculty orientation day with the assigned agency personnel and spend designated time on the assigned unit as necessary. Each agency has specific requirements. Plan student orientation to the clinical area according to agency policy. Select patient assignments and learning experiences according to classroom instruction and the student needs; give to the student the day prior to the clinical experience when available. Review the clinical objectives with the student. Conduct pre- and post-clinical conferences. Assist students in the integration and reinforcement of learning by relating knowledge and skills of nursing and other disciplines to the learning experiences of the clinical setting. Provide supervision and guidance for the student using components of the nursing process with the assigned patient. Serve as a role model and resource person. Be accessible to students at all times in clinical. Review, correct, and comment on care plans and other written assignments required for clinical experiences and return to students by the following week. Evaluate and record student progress and confer at the end of each rotation and midterm in terms of strengths and areas where improvement is needed; an evaluation is written on the designated form. Maintain a climate conducive to learning. Establish and maintain cooperative relationship with staff and personnel of clinical agencies. Maintain a record of student absences from clinical and report it to the Lead Faculty/program dean. Report to the Lead Faculty/program dean any student problems/concerns that may occur in the clinical setting; record on the Student Evaluation Form, date, sign name, and have student date and sign name. Assist with teaching skills in the campus Skills Laboratory and simulation lab. Additional duties as assigned.
