Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Legal Assistant to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting attorneys and legal teams through a range of administrative and research tasks. The ideal candidate will support our team members in various family law matters. The Legal Assistant will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the office, enhancing client relationships, and maintaining thorough documentation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a solid understanding of legal terminology to excel in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize, maintain, and update physical and electronic files.
- Schedule meetings and court dates.
- Draft and prepare documents.
- Maintain calendars and track tasks, follow-ups, and reminders.
- Assist with accounting and billing processes.
- Answer phone calls with professionalism and excellent etiquette.
- Provide administrative support for document preparation, including cover letters.
- Collaborate with paralegals on needed tasks.
- Track time accurately for all activities and tasks, unless otherwise instructed.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Provide comprehensive administrative support to attorneys, paralegals, and other team members.
- Communicate with court personnel and file documents with appropriate authorities.
- Maintain and organize case files, documents, and records efficiently.
- Utilize document management systems for storing and retrieving legal documents.
- Proofread and edit legal documents to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare legal correspondence and assist with clerical tasks such as photocopying, scanning, and faxing.
- Contribute to the preparation of legal contracts and agreements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365.
- Excellent attention to detail for proofreading and editing legal documents and commitment to accuracy.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, attorneys, and staff.
- Exceptional organizational abilities with the capability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Familiarity with court procedures and legal principles.
- Prior experience as a legal assistant, preferred.
- Prior experience with legal document management systems, preferred.
- High school diploma, required.
