Description
The Assistant Dean of Students provides support and case management for a portion of the undergraduate students and is responsible for the oversight of some academic administrative responsibilities. The Assistant Dean works closely with students, families, faculty and staff to develop support structures for individual students. They develop dynamic relationships across campus in order to better support their students and help them thrive socially and academically.
The Assistant Dean works closely with the Center for Student Life and Advising team to develop programs and systems to help all students at Bard thrive. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position.
Essential Duties
- Act as a primary contact for faculty, staff, parents, and students for the section of students they are responsible for; address personal/social/academic concerns or questions; manage individual student cases to provide support and advocacy for students with the use of campus resources
- Actively seek out students who have difficulty engaging with the academic or social life of the college or who are experiencing personal difficulties; provide on-going support and work with them to develop strategies for success
- Participate in midterm and final grade review and meet with students to create academic support plans. Meet with students on academic probation to offer support and resources
- Follow up with students as necessary to discuss campus policies and regulations, explain available options, and make referrals to appropriate offices or resources
- Provide case management for students in psychological or medical distress. Coordinate on- and off-campus resources and work with students’ families to arrange and implement support plans and, when necessary, leaves of absence
- Work closely with the Equity and Inclusion Office to support BEOP, BOP, ECO, and POSSE scholars in their orientation and continued participation in the Bard community
- Serve as a member of the Dean of Students' leadership team and actively participate in the development, implementation, and assessment of Bard's student success mission
- Engage a diverse student body and staff in fostering a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive campus environment that promotes student learning, academic success, personal growth, and connection to campus life while maintaining high levels of advocacy for students, parents, and campus partners
