Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a motivated and organized individual to join the business office at Vienna Correctional Center. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and be able to perform technical accounting work for the Individual in Custody Trust Fund. This position reviews and updates purchases made through the commissary, posts money received to individual in custody accounts, processes transfer checks, maintains filing systems, and will serve as a member of the facility Audit Team. Job Responsibilities
- Reviews and updates all final purchases made through commissary to confirm that parolee is being paid the full balance remaining in his/her account prior to closing.
- Posts to separate individual in custody accounts for money received from mailroom and other sources.
- Completes monthly and quarterly reports for management.
- Processes all transfer checks both incoming and outgoing and completes Trust Fund payables.
- Serves as a member of the facility Audit Team.
- Maintains an efficient, accounts filling system for east access to records and entries.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and completion of an approved training course, or three (3) years related clerical bookkeeping experience.
Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience reviewing and updating final monthly purchases to close monthly accounts.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience posting monies to accounts from outside sources.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience entering deposits on an automated accounting system.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience entering expenditures on an automated accounting system.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience completing monthly and/or quarterly reports for management based on reconciled accounts and end of month general ledger accounts.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience processing incoming and outgoing checks.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience conducting audits.
