Job Description

Project: SFPUC Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Lifecycle Management Project 

Location: 1980 Oakdale Avenue, San Francisco

Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

Under general direction, the Senior Water Service Inspector is responsible for interpreting, enforcing, and carrying out existing methods, procedures, rules and regulations pertaining to customer water services, water quality concerns and applicable water conservation programs; making regular contacts with the general public, property owners, tenants, building contractors and other building construction representatives for furnishing or obtaining information and explaining specialized matters pertaining to water services; and preparing and maintaining regular operating records pertaining to water services.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES:

The Senior Water Service Inspector works under direct supervision of the AMI Operations Manager. The 7317 Senior Water Service Inspector is distinguished from the 7316 Water Service Inspector by the fact that they inspect the more difficult and complex complaints as well as have the responsibility of supervising the Water Service Inspectors.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

The Senior Water Service Inspector supervises the 7316 Water Service Inspectors and other subordinate staff.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

According to Civil Service Commission Rule 109.3.2, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned 7317 Senior Water Service Inspector and are not intended to be an inclusive list.

  1. Supervise Water Service Inspectors in conducting investigations, tests, and inspections related to customer complaints, emergency calls, water service quantity and quality, water conservation programs, leaks, cross-connections and backflow, and billing irregularities.
  2. Coordinating with outside vendors performing meter exchanges, MTU installations, and related field activities.
  3. Monitor contractor performance, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, safety standards, and quality expectations.
  4. Prepare reports, metrics, and documentation for management on AMI system performance, inventory status, and contractor activities.
  5. Manage AMI and metering materials inventory, including procurement, provisioning, and lifecycle tracking of meters, MTUs, and related equipment.
  6. Review field activities generated by Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) to determine whether truck rolls are necessary, minimizing unnecessary field deployments.
  7. Collaborate with vendors, IT, and field operations staff to address AMI-related issues, including endpoint provisioning, replacements, and meter commun
