About the role:

We are currently seeking a Longwall Maintenance Supervisor to join our Production team at our Shoal Creek Mine. Shoal Creek Mine is one of the deepest underground coal mines in the U.S. Located on the Black Warrior River with barge transportation leading to the Port of Mobile in the Gulf of Mexico, the mine produces one of the highest quality met coal in the US. Eight-foot-tall entries, a brand-new longwall, paved road into the mine and 15+ years of coal reserves make Shoal Creek mine an ideal place to work. 

 

Located in between Jefferson, Walker, and Tuscaloosa counties in Alabama, offers beautiful rivers and lakes, landscapes, and rolling hills at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains. A major airport is just under an hour away in Birmingham. Minutes from Tuscaloosa and West Alabama and a diverse, family-friendly community with something for everyone. The Longwall Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day repair activities, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting on all mine equipment to insure the safe, economical, and efficient operation of the machinery.

 

Duties will include:

  • Visibly support and champion Peabody’s Missions and Values 
  • Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System
  • Plan, direct and lead the work of a crew or team.
  • Supervise maintenance and repair personnel by providing technical counsel and advice to the maintenance workers, answer questions on methods or materials to be used, check to observe workmanship and conformance to safety regulations.
  • Prepare and submit accurate and timely maintenance records.
  • Under the direction of Maintenance Manager, implement short-term and long-term maintenance planning, scheduling, and forecasting.
  • Assist the Maintenance Manager in the periodic review of maintenance and repair reports.
  • Provide input into analyzing costs for potential improvements.
  • Assist in the monitoring and maintaining the proper flow of parts and inventory.
  • Analyze failed components for failure reasons and then make changes to eliminate or lessen chances or repeat failures.
  • Keep Maintenance Manager and/or Mine Management advised of work progress, job completions and results.
  • Evaluate the efforts of workforce and train them in area of weakness.
  • Keep abreast of latest maintenance methods and equipment through technical publications and vendor representatives.
  • Monitor maintenance employee work performance and operating conditions to ensure the prevention of accidents consistent with company safety objectives and applicable State and Federal regulations.
  • Make recommendations for equipment changes or replacements.
  • Supervise equipment change/upgrade efforts and any replacement/relocation activities.
  • Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by the company.

 

The Lifestyle:

This position will work Monday-Friday, rotating every two weeks on a 3-shift rotation of midnights, afternoons, and days schedule on 8-hour shifts. This position may also require the necessity to work weekends, holidays, or another shift as deemed necessary.

About you:

  • Must possess high school diploma or GED.
  • Trade certification(s) required.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess good inter-personal and communication skills with the ability to positively influence others who may not report directly to the position.
  • Two (2) years of experience maintaining heavy diesel equipment required.
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal mining regulations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.

 

Physical Requirements – Surface Environment

  • Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift.
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
  • Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equip
