This is a 100% remote position with an opportunity to work a hybrid schedule for candidates based in the El Dorado Hills, CA or Chicago, IL metro area!

About the Role

As a backend Principal Software Engineer, you will serve as an individual contributor, leader and mentor alongside our elite Keeper Server / API development team. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet both user and business requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural design and development of complex backend systems using Java and MySQL
  • Utilize AWS Backend services and infrastructure to build scalable and robust backend solutions
  • Write high-quality, maintainable code, and provide technical guidance to the development team
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and optimize database queries
  • Implement and enforce security best practices to protect sensitive data and maintain compliance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including frontend developers, product managers, and QA engineers
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering their growth and development
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for systems and processes
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues in production environments

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a focus on backend
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Proficiency in Java programming and related frameworks
  • Strong knowledge of database design, optimization, and administration, specifically within MySQL
  • Extensive experience with AWS services and cloud infrastructure
  • Deep understanding of software architecture principles and design patterns
  • Proven ability to design and build scalable, high-availability systems
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience in guiding engineering teams
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies
