About Us

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence.

Description of Work

The Sandhills CDSA is one of a statewide network of 16 regional agencies that provide interdisciplinary early intervention services through the North Carolina Infant Toddler Program (NC ITP). The CDSA is the local lead agency for the Infant Toddler Program (ITP), a federally mandated program under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which serves children ages birth to 3 years, who have or who are at risk for developmental disabilities, and their families.

Lead agency responsibilities include the oversight of the administration of the Infant Toddler Program, ensuring that evaluation, case management and early intervention services are available within a multi-county catchment area and that children eligible for the program receive recommended services either through a network of enrolled early intervention service providers or directly from the CDSA.

This position will be responsible for provision of Occupational Therapy (OT) services for infants, toddlers and their families enrolled in the N.C. ITP and is necessary to ensure provision of OT services as mandated by Part C of IDEA and in compliance with all federally regulated timelines. Failure to fill this position will result in a lack of adequate OT service availability for children and families entitled to receive this service through the N.C. ITP under IDEA.

Additionally, this position will be responsible for completing eligibility determination evaluations as part of a multidisciplinary team for children referred to the N.C. ITP program; failure to fill this position could also impact timely completion of eligibility evaluations in compliance with federal regulations and state and program policies and procedures.

The primary functions of this position are to provide occupational therapy evaluations and treatment, to conduct developmental evaluations of birth to 3-year-old children to determine eligibility for the Infant-Toddler Program, and to assess child and family needs for early intervention supports and services, including evaluation for appropriate assistive technology. All evaluations and services are provided as a member of a multidisciplinary team at the Sandhills Children’s Developmental Services Agency (CDSA).
