About the role
Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to support our SQL Server environment on a part-time/fractional basis (approximately 30–40 hours per month). This role will focus on maintaining and optimizing our current SQL Server 17 infrastructure, with potential involvement in planning and advising on a future upgrade to SQL Server 2022. The ideal candidate will be self-directed, reliable, and able to deliver expert support in a limited-hour engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain SQL Server 17 databases, ensuring performance, reliability, and security.
- Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning solutions.
- Manage backups, restores, and disaster recovery processes.
- Contribute to planning and readiness for a potential future SQL Server 2022 upgrade.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator.
- Strong proficiency with SQL Server 17 or greater administration.
- Solid understanding of performance tuning, query optimization, and high availability.
- Experience managing database backups, restores, and recovery strategies.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a part-time capacity.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience with SQL Server clustering.
- Familiarity with Azure SQL / Azure clustering.
- Knowledge of data governance and compliance practices.
- Experience with database migration planning or execution.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to provide guidance on best practices and improvements.
- Support governance and compliance efforts as needed.
Engagement Details:
- Time Commitment: ~30–40 hours per month
