General Notes

Flexible work arrangements are available in the College of Pharmacy. The selected candidate is expected to work on campus at the University of Texas at Austin at least one to two days per week. 

This is a full-time position supported by multiple funding sources. Employment is offered for one year, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon continued funding and satisfactory performance.

Purpose

The Postdoctoral Fellow will support the Pharmacy Addictions Research and Medicine (PhARM) Program by leading rigorous pharmacoepidemiologic and policy-relevant research. The fellow will contribute to manuscript development, grant writing, analytic infrastructure development, and graduate student mentorship while strengthening the quantitative and funding capacity of the research program.

The position is designed to support transition to independent funding and development of a sustained research trajectory in addiction health services research and policy evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute advanced quantitative analyses using large secondary administrative health data sources (e.g., Texas Medicaid, commercial claims, EHR-linked datasets).

• Draft and contribute substantively to NIH and foundation grant applications, including Specific Aims, analytic plans, and methods sections.

• Lead and co-author peer-reviewed manuscripts and conference abstracts.

• Work with the PI to mentor graduate students in analytic methods, manuscript development, and reproducible research practices.

• Provide structured oversight and consultation for student-led quantitative research projects.

• Collaborate with faculty investigators and community partners on policy evaluation and workforce research initiatives.

• Contribute to development of reproducible workflows and analytic protocols within the PhARM Program.

• Present findings at national scientific meetings.

• Meet regularly with supervising faculty and collaborators to ensure timely progress and high-quality deliverables.

Required Qualifications

• PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) in epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, health services research, public health, health economics, biostatistics, or related field earned within the last three years. 

• Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications, including first-author manuscripts.

• Demonstrated experience contributing to competitive grant applications.

• Advanced quantitative analytic skills.

• Proficiency in SAS and/or R for large-scale health data analysis.

• Experience working with large administrative or clinical healthcare datasets.

• Strong scientific writing skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
