Senior Backend Engineer

Yoodli is a private, personalized and AI powered speech coach. Our dream is to help people around the world improve their communication skills without feeling judged. We’ve raised $7M+ in seed funding from leading investors such as Madrona, AI2, Cercano and other industry experts. Our work has been featured in outlets including WSJ, Inc., and Geekwire. We recently announced a partnership with Toastmasters International to bring AI powered speech coaching to 300k+ members globally. We’re a mission focused and fast growing startup based out of the Allen AI Institute in Seattle. The team includes alumni from GoogleX, Apple, Intuit among others. What we’re hoping you bring:

You believe in the mission and care deeply about helping people communicate better. You are an experienced backend engineer and embrace the uncertainty and upside of a small startup. You should have experience architecting software applications (bonus if they’re in the AI space), building backend infrastructure (GCP), maintaining build systems (DevOps), and working with microservices. You know how to balance speed of execution at a rapidly growing startup with technical robustness to plan for longer term stability. The ability to iterate and pivot quickly, and a can-do attitude are prerequisites. This is an IC role but you will be collaborating closely with engineers across the team. The role is hybrid - we would like you to be based in the Greater Seattle Area.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5+ years experience building, maintaining and scaling backend infrastructure (microservices, DevOps, databases, API integrations)
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP or equivalent), workflow systems (eg. Airflow), data warehouses (eg. BigQuery) and databases (eg. NoSQL)
• Familiarity with Python and pandas for data analysis
• Experience building bespoke auth systems
• Proficiency using Docker
• Humility, creativity, team-first-attitude and the ability to execute quickly

Nice to have Qualifications:

• Prior startup experience is strongly preferred (fewer than 50 employees)
• Experience with large language models such as GPT3
• Experience working with audio, video, speech to text systems 
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code services like Terraform and Pulumi
• Familiarity with WebSockets
