The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Specialist, Staff Care.

The Specialist, Staff Care is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive staff care programs that promote the well-being, resilience, and productivity of our global staff. This role requires a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by staff working in diverse and often challenging environments. This role will work closely with program managers and senior leadership to ensure the staff have access to the resources and support they need to maintain their physical, emotional, and mental health.

This position is hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays) if located in the Washington, DC area or remote for non-local candidates. It reports to the Global Sr. Director, Employee Experience.  Successful candidates must have the right to work within the country in which they reside.

Responsibilities:

Program

  • Develop and implement a holistic staff care strategy that addresses the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of all staff.

  • Design and manage programs and initiatives such as counseling services, Wellness workshops, stress management, resilience training, and peer support networks.

  • Conduct regular assessments to identify staff care needs and evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs.

  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to staff care, ensuring they are accessible and understood by all staff.

Support & Counseling

  • Provide direct support and counseling to staff experiencing stress, trauma, or other mental health challenges.

  • Coordinate with external mental health professionals and service providers globally to ensure staff have access to appropriate care and resources.

  • Establish and manage a crisis intervention protocol to support staff in emergency situations.

Training & Capacity Building

  • Develop and deliver training programs on topics such as stress management, resilience building, self-care, and mental health awareness.

  • Provide training and support to managers and team leaders on recognizing and addressing staff care issues within their teams.

  • Promote a culture of self-care and well-being throughout the organization.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with all regional program managers, and senior leadership to integrate staff care initiatives into organizational policies and practices.

  • Collaborate with external partners, other NGOs, and mental health organizations to share best practices and resources.

  • Act as a point of contact for staff care issues and provide regular updates to senior leadership on program status and outcomes.

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Develop and implement metrics and evaluation tools to measure the impact of staff care programs.

  • Regularly analyze data and feedback to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement.

  • Prepare and present reports on staff care initiatives to the chief people officer and other senior leadership.

Budget Management

  • Develop and manage the budget for staff care programs called ensuring cost effective use of resources.

  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support staff care initiatives.

Policy

  • Ensure that all staff care programs and practices comply with local laws, regulations, and organizational policies.

  • Stay current with developments in the field of mental health and well-being, incorporating new knowledge and best practices into staff care initiatives.

General Tasks

  • Participate in IJM’s community of spiritual formation.
