Position: International Trade Leader
Primary Location: Home Based US
Reports To: Supply Chain Excellence and Customer Experience Director
Compensation: $130,000 - $140,000 USD + bonus + benefits.
Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific salary range for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process. Please note that the compensation details listed reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, benefits, pension contributions or additional incentives.

About This Role and You
The International Trade Leader will drive and manage regional customs strategy and ensure operational trade compliance across Chemtrade. This requires an in-depth understanding of US and Canadian trade laws including intercompany valuation, import and export regulations. The incumbent will be required to work with and support all internal stakeholders including Tax, Legal, Supply Chain, Commercial, Operations, Finance and our Core Business Teams to ensure Chemtrade’s shipments effectively cross borders. This role is also the managing focal point for trade related external stakeholders including US and Canadian Customs, Brokers, Freight Forwarders and External Counsel. The role will require a strong compliance and audit mindset, basic accounting and strong change management skills to ensure key stakeholders are provided with timely and adequate communications on operational changes. The role will direct numerous varied projects, provide some training and support day-to-day escalations as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, Logistics/Transportation with 10 years of relevant work experience. MBA preferred.
- Experience in Chemical Industry is preferred.
- Strong comprehension of trade compliance laws and regulations in the US, Canada and Mexico.
- Familiarity with the intersection of trade compliance and tax considerations is considered an asset.
- US Customs Brokers license strongly preferred.
- People leadership - this role has one direct report
- Strong communication skills – verbal and written.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- SAP or ERP experience is preferred.
- Ability to visualize complex systems.
- Must have a valid driver license and ability to travel nationally and internationally (to/from the United States) up to 10%.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities 55%
- Customs Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure HTS classification and Country of Origin determinations are valid for all Chemtrade declarations.
- Develop and oversee the regional compliance frameworks to support entry reconciliation and Free Trade Agreement (FTA) eligibility.
- Manage AES filings, import /export documentation, and restricted / denied party screenings, ensuring compliance and proper escalation where needed.
- Oversee the regional import process, including managing customs broker relationships and auditing broker performance.
Tax Collaboration & Cross-Border Transactions 10%
- Partner with the Tax team to support cross-border intercompany transactions, ensuring proper documentation, and alignment of customs regulations to tax valuation strategies and transfer pricing policies.
- Partner with the Tax team in evaluating tax implications of international trade activities, including duties, VAT/GST, and withholding taxes.
- Contribute to the development of tax-efficient supply chain strategies in coordination with Finance and Legal teams.
Risk Management & Auditing 20%
- Lead regional audit programs for customs entries and export filings to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
- Design, implement and continuously improve regional SOPs, corrective actions and internal control frameworks. <
