The Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program is designed for candidates passionate about healthcare and eager to learn in a hands-on environment. Apprentices will receive comprehensive training from experienced trainers in outpatient clinics. This intensive, tuition-free earn-to-learn program enables apprentices to earn a full-time wage while training to become a Medical Assistant. In addition to hands-on in-clinic training, apprentices are required to complete unpaid coursework outside of clinic time.
Key Program Details
- Program Length: Approximately 6 months (a minimum of 1,000 clinical training hours).
- Clinic Training Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm (40 hours per week in-person).
- Location: Primary Care and Specialty outpatient clinics in the Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, and Yamhill counties.
- Pay & Benefits: This is a full-time, benefited position with a mid-point pay increase.
- Flexibility: Due to the limited number of training clinics, apprentices must be very flexible with their clinic locations and commutes.
- Commitment: Candidates must successfully complete the requirements of the program and are contractually obligated to work for Providence for a minimum of two years after graduation.

Required qualifications:
- Coursework/Training and Enrollment in the Medical Assistant (MA) Apprenticeship Program within 60 days of hire.
- Upon hire: National Provider BLS - American Heart Association
Preferred qualifications:
- 6 months of Medical assistant experience.
- 6 months of Healthcare experience in a setting with an Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- 6 months of prior experience providing a high level of customer service in a fast-paced environment.
