Are you an experienced professional with a passion for law enforcement records management? We are looking for a dynamic and detail-oriented individual to lead our Records Unit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Oversight: Guide and oversee the daily technical and operational activities of the Records Unit.
  • Records Management: Coordinate the preparation, processing, and management of law enforcement records, ensuring their integrity and compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Team Supervision: Supervise and support assigned personnel, providing guidance and direction.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all records and records releases comply with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Clery Reporting: Collaborate with the university Clery director to ensure compliance with Clery Act reporting requirements.
  • Recruitment & Training: Assist in the recruitment, selection, training, and scheduling of Records staff.
  • Operational Excellence: Perform related duties as required to support the smooth operation of the Records Unit.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible permanent/probationary position.
  • This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • Approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.

Department Summary

Safety and security is coordinated by University Police, through a force of 42 sworn full-time police officers, 40 sworn part-time, and 25 non-sworn support employees. Our police officers are graduates of the California Peace Officers Standards Training Academy with full arrest powers throughout the state. They undergo continued training to upgrade their skills as well as first aid and CPR. University Police officers are armed. They conduct foot, vehicular and bicycle patrols on campus and in the adjacent community 24 hours a day. Officers are responsible for reporting and investigating crimes and traffic accidents, enforcing state laws and local ordinances, responding to medical emergencies and all other incidents requiring police assistance.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience working within a law enforcement agency.
  • Experience working within a police records unit.
  • Completion of a Police Records Clerk and/or Records Supervisor training course is preferred.
  • Completion of Clery Act training is preferred.
  • Experience leading and/or supervising staff or groups in a complex, dynamic environment.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $8,417 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
