The Events Production Coordinator advances Denver Zoo’s Mission by contributing to the design, planning, organizing, and coordination of institutional goals. Reporting to the Guest Operations Manager, the Public Events Team is responsible for the production and run of major events such as Wild Fall, Adulting with the Animals, and Zoo Lights as well as supporting our working partners with event logistics and implementation throughout the year.  The ideal candidate for this role would bridge their passion for production and exercise curiosity and creativity in their approach to building landmark events at the Denver Zoo.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Priority 1 - Event Production and Planning

  • Coordinate event production meetings with key stakeholders; internal and external
  • Develop and maintain external contracts as related to events and onsite enhancements
  • Coordinate logistics and liaise with key stakeholders for install, run, and strike of all events hosted on Denver Zoo grounds; including external contractors
  • Contribute to the creative development of new events aligned with organizational strategy focused on revenue generation and guest experience

Priority 2 - Day-Of-Event Logistics

  • Manage day of logistics such as ground plan set up and strike, as well as run of show

Priority 2 - Operations Admin and Support

  • Develop and maintain detailed procedures, calendars, and timelines for each event
  • Coordinate and manage onsite and offsite assets as needed for events and seasonal operations  
  • Other assistance, as designated by the Guest Operations Manager, to support the overall goals of the Operations department

Other Responsibilities and Duties

  • Other assistance, as designated by the Guest Operations Manager, to support the overall goals of the department and organization.  Denver Zoo retains the right to add or change duties and/or responsibilities at any time.
  • The Events Production Coordinator does not have any direct reports, however, will be directly responsible for managing contractors.  This role will lead event support staff. 
  • This role is responsible for sourcing and purchasing within yearly budgets. Acts as a good steward of Denver Zoo’s resources.
  • The nature of this position requires safeguarding against the release of confidential and proprietary information of Denver Zoo.
  • This position will interact with managers at all levels and staff members across the organization, in addition to members of external organizations and the public. 

Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications

  • Completion or in pursuit of a or high school degree or equivalent required, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience. 
  • Experience in event planning and production, stage management, working in a nonprofit and hospitality are preferred, or any equivalent combination of experience, lived experience, and/or special skills.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, are preferred.
  • Adobe/Illustrator, Asset Management, and Event Scheduling software are a plus, but not required.
  • Requires organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks. Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task and changing environment, and the ability to work as part of a team.

Position Conditions

  • Ability to pass a physical examination, background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
  • Clear driving record
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to obtain IBCCES certification within the first 6 months of employment
