Classification: Contract
Contract Length: 3+ months
Requires travel to various locations throughout the US

Position Summary:
We are seeking a hands-on Field Network Engineer to support onsite deployments, installation, cabling, and physical network infrastructure setup. This role requires strong technical skills, the ability to lift and maneuver heavy equipment, and comfort working in field conditions such as server rooms, wiring closets, and customer office spaces.

Responsibilities

Physical Network Infrastructure

  • Install, mount, and secure network hardware including heavy UPS units
  • Build and execute rack layouts, ensuring proper grounding, cable management, and equipment placement
  • Perform CAT6 cabling: running, terminating, labeling, testing, and dressing cables
  • Mount network infrastructure on walls, racks, and ladder trays
  • Ensure all equipment is properly grounded, safely mounted, and compliant with site standards

Field Engineering & Onsite Support

  • Provide onsite network installation, troubleshooting, and configuration support
  • Work with ladders, hand tools, and safety gear for overhead cable and rack installation
  • Conduct site surveys to assess physical network requirements and build plans
  • Collaborate with project managers and remote engineering teams to deliver on installation timelines

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of switches, routers, firewalls, wireless APs, and UPS systems
  • Familiarity with Cisco and Meraki solutions
  • Ability to follow network diagrams, rack-elevation drawings, wiring schematics, and installation standards
  • Understanding of physical layer best practices: cabling standards, rack airflow, grounding, and power distribution

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience in field network installation or structured cabling
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and work on ladders up to required heights
  • Experience with CAT6 cabling, rack mounting, and infrastructure installation
  • Strong attention to detail with clean cable dressing and documentation habits
  • Ability to work onsite at customer locations and travel as needed
  • Strong communication and customer-service orientation
  • Experience with UPS installation and small business network equipment
  • Understanding of grounding, surge protection, and power best practices
  • Certifications (nice to have): CompTIA Network+, BICSI, CCNA, or related
