Summary Description

Provides independent field hardware and software support on building automation systems including, but not limited to HVAC control systems, security systems and life-safety systems. Installs system additions and turnkey systems. Provides 24-hour customer service.



Duties and Responsibilities

Essential:

  • Complies with and ensures compliance with all Tri-M safety policies and procedures.
  • Complies with and ensures compliance with all Tri-M employment policies and procedures including standards of conduct and appearance to reflect positively on the Company.
  • Supports BAS and PLC field troubleshooting. 
  • Assists with HVAC controls and instrumentation work. 
    Performs field preventative maintenance checks on electronic systems.
  • Provides field hardware support on electronic controllers and control devices and on pneumatic systems where applicable.
  • Provides on-site and front-end software assistance and support to customers.
  • Provides 24-hour on-call hardware and software service availability.
  • Installs system additions and turnkey systems.
  • Completes all necessary paperwork to support field work.
  • Conducts appropriate on-the-job training for Service Technicians I, II, and III.
  • Assists with or independently performs checkout and start-up of system additions and turnkey systems.
  • Communicates with equipment representatives to solve field hardware problems.
  • Assists with or independently performs job check-out and start-up as necessary.


Job Requirements

  • Licensed Electrical Journeyperson.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; post high school education in related field desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with building automation systems or in a related field.
  • Ability to understand design and design-intent of HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical, mechanical and control drawings, specifications, schematics and ladder diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of building automation systems software.
  • Above average troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with proven mechanical ability to troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems and their components.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to manage people.
  • Ability to organize and administer multiple jobs and tasks with good attention to detail.
  • Above average knowledge of electrical trade and applicable electrical codes as they apply to building automation systems.
  • Knowledge of and ability to deal with other construction trades.
  • Must be confident, decisive and self-motivated and able to make independent decisions.
  • Above average math and logic skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work a frequently changing schedule to meet customer demands.


Physical Requirements:

  • Working a minimum of 40 hours/week, scheduled in 8 to 10-hour shifts
  • Standing and climbing 4 to 6 hours/day
  • Kneeling, lifting, reaching above shoulders, and bending 4 to 5 hours/day
  • Twisting (180° ) and walking 2 to 3 hours/day
  • Squatting and sitting 1 to 2 hours/day
  • Lifting weights of 0 to 75 lbs. at the following frequencies:  continuous lifting of 10 to 35 lbs.; frequent lifting of 35 to 50 lbs.; occasional lifting of 50 to 75 lbs.; sizes & shapes of objects vary from concrete blocks to cylinders to 10’ lengths of metallic conduit and 20' lengths of PVC conduit; average carry requirements, 60 lbs. for 40'
  • Ability to lift from floor to above shoulder
  • Repetitive use of hands includes: continuous grasping up to 50 lbs.; frequent pushing and pulling of 50 to 75 lbs.; and fine motor coordination for receptacle installation and wire terminations
  • Repetitive use of feet is required for operating heavy equipment, conduit benders and vertical climbing
