Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director of Business Development, the Senior Director, Business Development (Investments) will be a key partner to support global business development innovation goals.
The role requires extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry or in biotech venture capital/venture creation, along with a strong scientific and development background, proven project and people leadership, business and strategic acumen and excellent communication skills.
Job Description
- S/He will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, transacting, and managing investments.
- Establishes and maintains academic/ biotech/ VC network, by gaining visibility, trust, and respect within those communities.
- Recognizes and contextualizes potentially first-in-class science/technology, leverages external consultation with experts in the field, and presents the opportunity to internal stakeholders.
- Partners with scientific and technical evaluation team to ensure deal is fit for purpose to satisfy strategic objectives.
- Leads and presents investment cases, working with internal stakeholders in developing a business case, along with financial modeling, and presenting to the investment committee or other governance body.
- Leads complex negotiations requiring a comprehensive understanding of venture investment best practices.
- Actively manage investments in partner companies. Takes Board Director and Board Observer roles as appropriate. Works with partner company management teams, boards, and investors to ensure company performance.
- Work cross-functionally to ensure effective communication, efficient decision-making, to support completion of transactions in a timely manner.
- Supports Business Development initiatives and external engagements.
Qualifications
Required
Knowledge and Experience
- Advanced degree (such as MS, MBA, PharmD, JD, MD, or PhD)
- 6-10 years of relevant business development experience and/or venture capital /venture creation experience
- Demonstrated track record of executing investments.
- Demonstrated negotiation and deal-making experience.
- Extensive scientific knowledge – ideally in neuroscience and / or nephrology, and / or immunology, and / or other significant scientific training.
- Demonstrated ability to work in an international and multicultural environment and successfully build relationships with and influence US and ex-US headquarters stakeholders.
- Well-established global network in pharma/biotech/VC.

Preferred
- MBA or PhD preferred.
