Amerisure is currently recruiting for a Senior Data Engineer that can do a 2-day hybrid approach onsite in our Farmington Hills office. This role requires experience with mentoring junior developers along with bringing solutions for optimization of systems. The ideal candidate will also possess the following skill set.
Summary Statement
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for leading the development, optimization, and scaling of data pipelines and systems. This role requires expertise in designing advanced data solutions, ensuring the stability and reliability of production environments, and implementing best practices across the data engineering team. This position also involves mentoring team members and contributing to the success of projects within a structured, Agile environment.
Essential Tasks/Major Duties
- Architect, implement, and optimize complex, scalable data pipelines to support analytics, machine learning, and operational needs.
- Lead efforts to profile large, diverse datasets, identify patterns, and improve data quality and performance.
- Develop high-performance physical data models, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and alignment with business goals.
- Establish advanced monitoring, logging, and alerting frameworks to ensure robust pipeline observability and proactive issue resolution.
- Ensure metadata is accurate, up-to-date, and supports compliance, traceability, and governance requirements.
- Design, implement, and optimize CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployment and updates across environments.
- Actively participate in and contribute to Agile ceremonies, driving iterative development and collaboration across teams.
- Lead efforts to troubleshoot, resolve, and prevent operational issues in production environments, including participation in an on-call rotation and incident root-cause analysis.
- Mentoring colleagues, sharing best practices, conducting code reviews, and fostering a culture of excellence.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
- Data certifications (e.g., Databricks, AWS Certified Data Analytics) preferred.
- 5 + years of professional experience in data engineering or a related role, with demonstrated success in delivering large-scale data solutions.
- Expertise in tools such as Databricks, AzureGit, AWS, Jira, ER/Studio, and VS Code.
- 5 years of experience in of SQL and Python.
- 3 years experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) and modern data engineering tools and frameworks.
- Proven track record of building and optimizing data pipelines and data models for scalability and performance.
- Experience establishing CI/CD processes and automated pipelines with DevOps principles.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a strategic mindset and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive consensus.
- Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of insurance terminology and practices with the ability to apply that knowledge in communication and data organization, preferred.
