The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization is seeking a talented Senior FPGA/Firmware Design & Analysis Engineer – Lead or Senior - to join the Design Engineering Team in Huntsville, AL, on the Patriot Advanced Capability (PAC-3) missile-defense program.
The Design Engineering team is responsible for designing RADAR seeker upgrades and next generation concepts, as well as supporting production and special test equipment design. Boeing has a multi-year contract to develop, test, and manufacture the PAC-3 RADAR seeker. This program encompasses concurrent design, test and manufacturing as new upgrades to this complex electro-mechanical assembly are incorporated into production. This long-term program is rapidly growing in Huntsville, Alabama, due to design updates and production growth.
Position Responsibilities:
- Leads the design of electronic hardware, FPGAs, and/or firmware focused on RADAR seeker and Hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) requirements
- Evaluates and integrates third-party intellectual property (IP) cores and verification IP (VIP) cores
- Identifies critical performance measures and develops processes for computing them
- Supports the integration of designs with other hardware and software components/systems
- Develops test system requirements and verification methodologies
- Supports circuit board designs for engineering and operational systems
- Reviews testing and analysis activities to assure compliance to requirements
- Supports test plans/procedures development and test events
- Executes Root Cause/Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations and resolutions
- Exhibits good communication, analytical, and organizational skills, within a fast-paced, collaborative team environment
- Domestic travel may be required up to 10% of the time depending on business needs
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
This worksite participates in Boeing’s optional 4/10 schedule rotation. 4/10 is a rotation in which employees can work 10 hour shifts, 4 days per week and receive every Friday off.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
- Minimum of seven (7) or more years of experience working with ASICs or FPGAs
- Minimum of seven (7) or more years of experience in electrical engineering
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Experience with Verilog Very High Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language (VHDL), and Universal Verification Methodology (UVM) using System Verilog for Verification
- Technical experience working with high-speed digital and RF systems
- Skilled in Gigabit High-Speed Serial Interfaces like Serial Rapid I/O (SRIO), Aurora, or Peripheral Component Interconnect express (PCIe)
- Experience using one or more software tool suites: Xilinx ISE, Xilinx Vivado and Microsemi
- Ability to understand synthesis reports, perform timing analysis and logic optimization, and derive FPGA design constraints/requirements
- Experience working other engineering teams (e.g. board designers, system engineers, requirement engineers, reliability engineers, test engineers), to ensure designs function safely and reliably when deployed by assisting in Worst Case Circuit Analysis, IO timing, IO type selection, life analysis, etc.
- Experience building self-checking test benches and bus functional models for FPGA simulation
- Hands on experience with integration and debug
- Proven experience effectively communicating and collaborating on multi-discipline teams
