About Pictor Labs
Pictor Labs is the leading virtual staining company revolutionizing digital pathology adoption worldwide through cutting-edge AI-powered technology. Our solutions deliver diagnostic-quality results in minutes while preserving tissue samples for comprehensive analysis.
Our breakthrough DeepStain™ and ReStain™ technologies enable unlimited virtual staining from a single tissue sample, eliminating the bottlenecks and limitations of traditional chemical staining processes. This innovation supports the critical evolution from research applications to clinical deployment, empowering laboratories to advance their digital pathology capabilities while reducing chemical waste, improving operational efficiency, and expanding diagnostic possibilities.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to own and evolve our cloud infrastructure. This role will be central in ensuring our compute, storage, and networking systems are secure, scalable, and optimized for high-performance AI workloads. You will collaborate closely with our machine learning, software, and regulatory teams to support both rapid prototyping and production-grade deployment of medical AI systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Ownership: Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable cloud environments (primarily on AWS, with some on-prem integration).
- AI/ML Workflows: Build and optimize infrastructure for GPU-based deep learning training, distributed compute, and high-throughput computer vision applications.
- Serverless & Microservices: Architect and manage serverless solutions (AWS Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, API Gateway) where applicable to accelerate product development and reduce operational overhead.
- Automation & CI/CD: Develop and manage infrastructure-as-code (Terraform preferred, but experience with CDK, Pulumi, or similar is welcome), CI/CD pipelines, and automated monitoring/alerting.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure infrastructure meets healthcare-grade requirements (HIPAA, SOC2, ISO 13485/FDA-aligned).
- Data & Storage: Manage high-performance, cost-optimized storage systems (including hybrid cloud + on-prem NAS).
- Post-Deployment Monitoring: Implement systems for ongoing monitoring, observability, and performance validation of deployed applications and services, leveraging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, and AWS CloudWatch.
- Collaboration: Partner with ML engineers, software developers, and regulatory teams to translate requirements into scalable infrastructure.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor, analyze, and tune system performance for demanding R&D and production workloads.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on cloud engineering experience (AWS preferred).
- Deep experience with GPU-based compute and high-performance ML workloads.
- Strong expertise in infrastructure-as-code (Terraform preferred; CDK, Pulumi, or similar also considered).
- Experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and microservice deployments.
- Proven experience with serverless architectures (AWS Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge).
- Solid understanding of cloud security best practices, IAM, and network architecture.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Git
