Qualifications
Job Summary:
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) performs a variety of laboratory tests and procedures to assist in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of diseases. This role involves specimen collection, analysis, reporting results, and ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of lab operations in accordance with established standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests in areas such as:

Hematology
-
Chemistry
-
Microbiology
-
Immunology
-
Blood Bank / Transfusion Services
-
Urinalysis
-

Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment; troubleshoot as needed.

Verify and report test results accurately and promptly to physicians and medical staff.

Adhere to all quality control procedures and participate in quality assurance programs.
-
Prepare reagents, controls, and other solutions as needed.
-
Handle and process specimens according to protocols.
-
Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA, CAP, OSHA, HIPAA).

Assist in training new staff or students as directed.

Participate in continuing education to stay current with laboratory best practices.
Qualifications:
For MLT:
-
Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field.

Certification by ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology), AMT, or equivalent preferred.
For MT:
-
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field.

National certification (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent) required.
Skills and Competencies:

Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory testing procedures and instrumentation.

Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.

Ability to work independently and under pressure.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Computer literacy, including use of LIS (Laboratory Information Systems).
Work Environment:
-
Fast-paced hospital or clinical laboratory environment.
-
Exposure to biological hazards, chemicals, and infectious diseases.
-
Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25–50 pounds.

May involve rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.
