DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: In addition to building case carts for surgical procedures, Central Processing is responsible for cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments for all Operating Room procedures.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Instrument Special Request Coordinator at St. Charles Health System (St. Charles Health System) is responsible for receiving,  cleaning, decontaminating, assembling, and sterilizing  special request instrumentation. This caregiver will also be responsible for distributing the special request instrumentation. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Decontamination

Sterilization processing

Instrument assembly

Case cart and procedure preparation

Inventory management

Equipment operation and inspection

Manage special request instrument throughput

Prepare special requests for next day procedures

Report out special request needs

Work with OR Specialty Coordinators on procedure special requests

Work with Vendor reps on procedure special requests

Enforce St. Charles Health System Vendor policy

Manage facility to facility instrument loaners

When necessary, manage disposable special requests

Monitor instrument trials

Work with Instrument Coordinator to replace lost/ broken instruments

When necessary, cover for Instrument Coordinator

EDUCATION:                   

Required: High school diploma or GED            

Preferred: N/A 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

Required: IAHCSMM or CBSPD Sterile Processing Certification required.           

Preferred: N/A 

EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED: One year of sterile processing experience.  

PREFERRED:  

Two to four years of Sterile Processing experience. Experience with understanding IFU, sterilization, and handling of complex surgical instruments. Exceptional communication skills. Ability to understand and interpret complex medical terminology and the surgical schedule.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION: 

Successful completion of Physical Capacity Evaluation (PCE) prior to employment. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Continually (75% or more): Standing, walking, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling 1-10 pounds, grasping/squeezing, Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.

Frequently (50%): Bending, stooping/kneelin
