About the role

JCC Greater Boston, a leading nonprofit organization in community management, is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Program Coordinator for our Discovery Club After School Program. As a Program Coordinator, you will be crucial in providing an enriching and nurturing environment for children in our Discovery Club After School Program. Working in collaboration with a team of dedicated professionals, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children by creating engaging and innovative programming.

The starting salary for this position is $41,000 - $44,000 annually. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by the scope of the position, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity.

Responsibilities

After School Responsibilities:

  • After School Educator: Lead classrooms of elementary-age children as an After School Educator at Discovery Club After School, focusing on program planning, safety, learning, and fun.
  • After School Program Support: Assist the Program Director with administrative and logistical tasks to ensure smooth operations within Discovery Club.
  • Classroom Environment: Create vibrant and enriching classrooms where children can thrive in a safe, supportive, and fun atmosphere.
  • Curriculum Design: Develop, plan, and support curricula and after-school activities, integrating Jewish values and content into the learning experience.
  • Behavior Management: Ensure a positive and supportive atmosphere by assisting children with behavior management and responding to individual needs.
  • Family Engagement: Establish consistent and meaningful relationships with students and their families/caregivers, communicating the organization’s mission, values, and principles.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure that the health and safety needs of all children are met, adhering to EEC regulations and addressing any issues promptly.

 

Family Programming Responsibilities:

  • Family Programming Collaboration: Partner with the Assistant Director of Family Programming and the Family Programming team to support playgroups, school vacation days, holiday celebrations, special programs, and large-scale community events.
  • Space Management: Work alongside the Family Programming team to maintain, enhance, and program the Family Wing and indoor/outdoor classroom spaces.
  • Enrichment Classes: Contribute to the design, planning, and implementation of children’s enrichment classes, fostering creativity and engagement.
  • Program Innovation: Assist in the development and implementation of new and existing programs for children and families.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and effectiveness.
  •  Additional Responsibilities: Perform other tasks and responsibilities as needed to support the overall success of the program and the organization.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field, and 1-3 years’ experience in working with school-aged children in formal or informal settings.  1-3 years’ experience managing and/or developing children’s programming.

The Program Coordinator must be an enthusiastic team player ready to jump into a vibrant and busy team. They must also have experience working with children and be warm, cheerful, patient, and nurturing. In addition to these qualities, the successful candidate will also have  the following skills and abilities:

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.

  • Excellent communication skills, including listening, writing, and verbal abilities.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and handle situations effectively and diplomatically; adaptable to evolving needs and circumstances.
  • Self-starter who takes the initiative.
