 Health Information Specialist

Job Description

This is an entry- level position on site.

The primary function of a Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist I is to assist in all of the on-site operation needs of the JEMH Health Information Management Department. This includes, but is not limited to, preparing/scanning paper-based documents, quantitatively and qualitatively analyzing a hybrid chart in multiple systems, and assisting in the release of information to patients and providers. 

Education/Training/Experience: 

High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous clerical experience required, Health Information Management preferred. Proficiency in alpha and numerical filing required. Strong organizational and communication skills; able to follow both written and verbal directions required. Knowledge and experience working with software applications, specifically Microsoft Windows required. 

Physical Demand Analysis: 

Physical Requirements: Sitting for long periods, standing, walking, bending, reaching, use of a step stool, ability to carry armloads of charts and push carts loaded with records, good hand and arm dexterity for using the computer keyboard and mouse. 

Visual Requirements: Near vision and extensive exposure to VDT's 

Hearing Requirements: Ability to hear normal conversations and telephone communication
