Associate Underwriter

SageSure Expanded Markets is the newest program being added, bringing in additional capacity for homes that might not meet the underwriting guidelines. The capacity sources in this program include but are not limited to Excess & Surplus lines carriers, high-value home carriers, and specialty product carriers such as mobile home and flood. 

This role will report directly to the Director of Business Development, Expanded Markets and provide an opportunity to make an impact on an emerging business unit within SageSure. The position will be a key part of the underwriting team for the Expanded Markets program including servicing active policies, reviewing inspections, quoting renewal policies and aiding clients in placement of new business. Candidates for this position should have very strong organizational and communication skills, be comfortable with client-facing customer service roles, and be able to work well in a team environment. 

What you’d be doing: 

• Manage incoming calls, chats and emails from agents or Policy Services, or Expanded Markets team members   
• Develop a deep understanding Expanded Markets carrier underwriting guidelines and execute sound underwriting decisions based on those guidelines  
• Review inspections for Expanded Markets policies to confirm adherence to guidelines and proper rating/forms for the risk exposure  
• Underwrite and supervise the Expanded Markets book of business, focused on, but not limited to renewals 
• Aid Assistant Underwriter in helping agency partners process bind or post-bind tasks including but not limited to binding a policy, processing endorsements or cancellations, or other items as needed
• Maintain positive agency relationships and serve as resource to agency partners by answering agency calls and helping with questions about Agent Portal or carrier offerings
• Aid Underwriter in the Expanded Markets marketing plan to increase new and renewal business including in-person agency visits, telemarketing and distributing marketing materials  
• Mentor and train Assistant Underwriters, Policy Services teammates, or other SageSure personnel on Expanded Markets processes as needed 

We’re looking for someone who has: 

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience    
• Minimum two (2) years of Personal Lines Excess & Surplus Lines Underwriting support experience  
• Must have ability to use company automation including, but not limited to, Windows, Word, Excel & company systems  
• Ability to work in a team environment essential  
• Good written and verbal skills  
• Demonstrated proficiency in sales and marketing  
• Proven organization skills and ability with a strong attention to detail  
• Interest in continued education and professional development to obtain full underwriting authority 
• Insurance Property and Casualty license required 

Highly preferred candidates also have: 

• Prior Customer Service experience 
• A desire to enhance skills through obtaining professional designations like CPCU
